From the Archives: Rob Dolecki

Archives-Dolecki

With modern developments in handheld communication devices meaning photographs can be snapped, uploaded and digitally ‘liked’ in a matter of seconds, quality levels have been forgotten in favour of lighter backpacks and healthy spines.

There are more riding photos knocking around than ever before, but when was the last time a truly sick photograph was scorched into your mind?

One man still putting the effort into taking decent riding photos is Rob Dolecki. Whilst most people happily settle for a badly timed snap sniped from fifty feet away on an iPhone, he’s rigging up flashes in back-alleys around the globe (and printing the results in his Maintain zine series).

In this article, he talks over some gems from his archives…

Flukelife: Issue 2

img666

As Matthew Broderick famously pointed out, life moves pretty fast. So fast in fact, that it only seems like a couple of months ago that Addy etched three years’ worth of Liverpool riding onto disk for the second Flukelife production.

Now… nearly two years since it’s release, it’s been uploaded to the internet — allowing those who foolishly ditched their DVD player to witness nearly half an hour of rythymic riding from Glover, Minney, Roper and co.

Videodrome – Nick Ferreira

These days pretty much every fleeting moment ever captured on video, DV tape or 16GB Sandisk memory card is available for all to see via the democratic visual medium of Youtube (or Vimeo, if you’re a bit snootier).

Whilst this is obviously a good thing, finding anything actually decent to watch can be a bit of a struggle.

So in an effort to separate the wheat from the digital chaff, here’s the first of what may or may not be a semi-regular feature, in which people explain a few visual gems they’re into.

Up first, Chicago-based wallride roaster and Challenger editor-in-chief Nick Ferreira…

What Goes On 1.5

Nearly a decade since Ratkid’s free jazz classic What Goes On was first encoded to DVD-R – here’s a sequel. Just over 3 minutes two-wheeled expression filmed in at least three continents, featuring motions from such names as King Hamilton, Bobby $kerbz and Chris Reyes.

In an age where even a two minute video gets a trailer, a teaser and a behind-the-scenes making-of documentary – the humble art of just throwing something onto vimeo when it’s done should not be forgotten.

In related news, the new Skapegoat video should be landing up at Central Library in the next week or so. Keep an ear to the tracks and an eye to the sky.

“Rear hub, OG Bob’s and grips”

The long forgotten art of the skit is alive and well in Croatia.. here’s the new trailer for LL Leopold’s Huscija 21. Forecasts suggest copies of the full video should be landing on British tarmac in the next few weeks.

In unrelated news, that Jibtape video is available to view via high speed internet connection. Guest cameo from Tommy Gunn’s sports socks.

New trailer for the new Word video.

Looks like Leo has got a new phone. And there’s a new series of Car Share on iPlayer…

The Antidote Video

What sweatpants will Leo wear? Has Newrick pumped his tyres up? Does Shanky need new ankles? After years of speculation and Instagram-based teasery, life’s big questions have finally been answered, as all 16 minutes of the Antidote Video have finally been professionally exported and uploaded to Vimeo.

Watch it below… or better yet, why not wait a week or two and buy it in outdated disk form from thecentrallibrary.com? After four years, surely you can wait another week…

Huscija 21 incoming

bln

Although ‘media trend analysts’ may tell you differently, the soothing sound of DVD duplicators still echoes loudly in industrial estates and back-bedrooms around the globe — and as multinationals and conglomerates turn to flash-in-the-pan viral videos to appease potential investors, 2017 is looking to be yet another banner year for underground movements captured on humble Digital Versatile Disc.

Hot on the well-worn heels of last year’s Huscija 20, Croatia’s Lord Leopold has once again submersed himself in the editing suite to bring you another harsh circular slab of East European nightlife — aptly titled Huscija 21.

When pressed for a comment, here’s what the Don Dada had to say on the matter…

“The next video will be made in the usual Huscija style. The biggest difference is there won’t be full circle fisheye and that’s the thing I’m the most happy about haha. People will finally get to enjoy the picture as they should.

We will have been filming for it for 12 months as we always do… it always takes a year for a new DVD ever since we got the VX. There will be some English footage with an all London part. And of course pony bikes are included since I rode them for months now… I broke my pony so I have to fix it now… the cranks cracked hahaha.

For the premiere we’re making a street jam on that day, then the premiere in the evening and the old school hip hop afterparty at night… hopefully it all goes good — I’ll give it a little speech.”
